(KRON) -- The devastation in Maui has people all over looking for ways to help. KRON4 spoke to a Bay Area native who is now studying in Hawaii, He will head to Maui to lend a hand next week.San Leandro native Kaleo Lee is currently at the University of Washington’s Kona campus, studying to be a physician's assistant. After Tuesday's devastating fire in Maui, he and fellow students sprung into action and organized a fundraiser for this weekend.What’s collected both in person at the Kona fundraiser and online through an Amazon registry will be delivered to the King's Cathedral in Maui. Lee and a handful of fellow students will then go there next week to lend a helping hand."I talked to the pastor at the Kings Cathedral Church in Maui this morning," Lee said. BROWNSVILLE, Texas (Border Report) — A 3-year-old died Friday on a bus full of migrants sent from South Texas to Chicago as part of Texas’ border security, according to state officials.The child died while being transported with other asylum-seekers who had crossed the border from Mexico and boarded the bus in Brownsville, Texas, as part of the state’s Operation Lone Star border security initiative, according to officials with the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM).Texas authorities did not say where the child was from or why they became ill. The Illinois Department of Public Health said the child died Thursday in Marion County, in the southern part of that state. AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — New numbers show a sharp increase in traffic-related deaths within the city of Aurora this year.Agent Matthew Longshore, with the Aurora Police Department, said they’ve recorded 43 fatal crashes, just seven short of their entire total for all of 2022. DENVER (KDVR) — Investigators believe a gas leak is what caused an apartment building to explode in the 400 block of South Lincoln Street on Thursday night. According to the Denver Fire Department, it is unclear where the gas was leaking from or what ignited it.
